Foundation

The BroadForward SCP in your Network

The BroadForward Service Communication Proxy (SCP) provides the network with a powerful, unified, intelligent control point for all HTTP/2 SBI traffic inside the 5G Standalone core. Once deployed in the network, it continuously orchestrates how 5G Network Functions communicate by replacing rigid point‑to‑point links with a fully managed mesh. The SCP enforces dynamic routing policies, balances NF traffic loads, strengthens perimeter and inter‑NF security, and provides deep operational visibility – allowing operators to centrally govern, monitor, and optimize service‑based interactions across the entire 5G core.

Streamlining 5G Signaling: Centralized Control for Service-Based Architecture

Runs on BroadForward’s BFX Unified Signaling Core (USC) platform, allowing operators to co-host 5G SCP alongside SEPP, STP, DSC, and BSF-eliminating silos, reducing integration points, and lowering total cost of ownership.

Features a 100% graphical interface (CLI is supported also) for configuring routing, message harmonization, and service logic, empowering operators to adapt policies instantly without custom coding or expensive vendor requests.

Includes native 4G-to-5G interworking functions (IWF) to connect HTTP/2 service-based 5G core functions directly with legacy Diameter/SS7 nodes (like 4G PCRF or OCS) for seamless network migration

Specifications

Everything you need to evaluate, in one place

Supported Standards & Features

  • 3GPP Rel-16 Indirect Communication Fully compliant with 3GPP TS 23.501 Model C (direct NRF discovery, SCP routing) and Model D (delegated NRF discovery and selection to SCP).
  • HTTP/2 & RESTful SBA Protocol Support Handles 5G Service-Based Architecture (SBA) control plane signaling over HTTP/2 with full header parsing, parameter routing, and JSON body inspection.
  • 3GPP NRF Integration & Registration Automatic registration with the Network Repository Function (NRF), supporting dynamic service discovery, NF profile caching, and health status notifications.
  • 3GPP Security & OAuth2 Authorization Enforces transport-layer security using TLS 1.3/1.2 and validates OAuth2 access tokens for secure inter-NF authorization.
  • Advanced Traffic & Overload Management Complies with 3GPP congestion control specifications using ingress/egress rate limiting, request prioritization, and dynamic load balancing across NF sets.
  • 3GPP 4G–5G Interworking (IWF) Optional standardized interworking capabilities (e.g., N26/N32 and protocol conversion) connecting 5G SA HTTP/2 NFs directly to legacy 4G PCRF/OCS and Diameter infrastructure.

SCP Features

  • Support for BSF (Optional) The BroadForward Binding Support Function acts as a session-binding middleware that enables the Service Communication Proxy (SCP) to correctly route policy-related signaling messages to the exact Policy Control Function (PCF) instance managing a subscriber's session
  • Converged Multi-Protocol Single Engine Built on the BFX platform, allowing operators to run SCP, 5G SEPP, BSF, DSC, and STP on a common core engine, significantly lowering TCO.
  • Script-Free GUI Signaling Orchestration Provides a 100% graphical environment to build custom routing logic, message harmonization, and mediation rules without writing custom code or paying vendor CR fees.
  • Native Multi-Generational Protocol Interworking Optional out-of-the-box translation between HTTP/2, Diameter, SS7 (MAP/CAP), RADIUS, and REST, allowing seamless 2G–5G core network migration.
  • Single-Capacity Cross-Protocol Licensing Uses a unified capacity license where traffic volume can freely shift between protocols (HTTP/2, Diameter, SS7) as the network evolves to 5G Standalone.
  • Ultra-Lightweight & Cloud-Agnostic Footprint Extremely low resource consumption designed for flexible deployment across bare metal, virtualized platforms, Kubernetes containers, or hybrid cloud environments.

Deployment

Freedom of Environment: Deploying Where it Makes Sense

You are never tied to a specific hardware vendor, appliance cycle, or hyperscaler. Wherever the BroadForward SCP was deployed first, the software can be redeployed using the same configuration on VMs, Containers or bare metal. Because the BroadForward SCP separates the underlying execution platform from its routing logic, configuration, and security profiles, moving environments requires no re-engineering. All service logic, HTTP/2 message routing rules, parameters, and 3GPP Rel-16 NRF/SBA profiles built in the GUI can be exported as clean, platform-independent configuration profiles or declarative Kubernetes Helm charts.
