Foundation

The BroadForward STP in your Network

The GSMA GLOMO Award–winning BroadForward Signaling Transfer Point (STP) uniquely offers a modern, software‑defined SS7 control layer for 2G/3G networks – whether deployed on‑premise or fully in the cloud. Once in your network, it replaces aging, proprietary hardware STPs with a cloud‑ready, virtualized routing and security architecture built on the BFX Unified Signaling Core platform. The STP centrally manages SS7 (MAP/CAP/INAP) signaling by performing message translation, Global Title Translation, screening, (optional) firewall enforcement, and multi‑protocol interworking across circuit‑switched and packet‑switched domains. Operators gain a flexible, cloud‑deployable SS7 core that delivers full control, visibility, and security without the constraints of legacy appliances.

Modernizing Legacy Core: Centralized Control for SS7 Infrastructure

Runs on BroadForward’s BFX Unified Signaling Core (USC) platform, providing operators with a uniform approach to deploying, provisioning and operating SS7 STP alongside 4G DRA/DSC, 5G SCP, SEPP, and BSF-eliminating a silo appraoch, reducing integration points, and lowering total cost of ownership.

Features a 100% graphical interface (CLI is supported also) for configuring GTT rules, message manipulation, and service logic, empowering operators to adapt routing policies instantly without custom coding or expensive vendor requests.

Includes optional (native) SS7-to-4G/5G interworking functions (IWF) to connect legacy MAP/CAP nodes directly with Diameter (4G) and HTTP/2 (5G) service-based architectures for smooth, step-by-step core evolution.

Specifications

Everything you need to evaluate, in one place

Supported Standards & Features

  • ITU-T & ANSI SS7 Protocol Support Fully compliant with ITU-T and ANSI standards for MTP3, M3UA, SCCP, TCAP, MAP, CAP, and INAP protocol stacks.
  • Advanced Global Title Translation (GTT) Flexible GTT engine supporting flexible addressing, nature of address (NOA), translation type (TT), numbering plan (NP), and intermediate/final GTT.
  • SS7 Firewall & Anti-Spoofing (GSMA FS.11) (Optional) Implements GSMA Category 1, 2, and 3 SS7 security firewalls to block signaling abuse, SMS spoofing, subscriber tracking, and unauthorized data extraction.
  • M3UA / SIGTRAN Load Balancing & Failover Provides dynamic point-code routing, SCTP multi-homing, active-active cluster redundancy, and congestion management across IP signaling links.
  • Number Portability (NP) & ENUM Support (Optional) Integrated support for mobile number portability (MNP) queries (INAP/MAP/ENUM) directly at the STP layer to optimize routing paths.
  • Native SS7–Diameter–HTTP/2 Interworking (IWF) (Optional) Standardized interworking features enabling direct MAP-to-Diameter (e.g., S6a/S6dh) and MAP-to-HTTP/2 conversions for seamless multi-gen roaming and authentication.

STP Features

  • Converged Multi-Protocol Single Engine Built on the BFX platform, allowing operators to run STP, DRA, 5G SCP, SEPP, and BSF on a common engine, significantly lowering TCO.
  • Script-Free GUI Signaling Orchestration Provides a 100% graphical environment to build custom GTT rules, message harmonization, and mediation workflows without writing C/C++ code or paying CR fees.
  • Native Multi-Generational Protocol Interworking Optional out-of-the-box translation between SS7 (MAP/CAP), Diameter, HTTP/2, RADIUS, and REST, enabling 2G/3G nodes to coexist directly with 4G/5G cores.
  • Single-Capacity Cross-Protocol Licensing Uses a unified capacity license where traffic volume can freely shift from legacy SS7 over to Diameter and HTTP/2 as 2G/3G traffic declines and 5G grows.
  • Ultra-Lightweight & Cloud-Agnostic Footprint Replaces footprint-heavy proprietary hardware racks with lightweight software deployed on bare metal, virtualized platforms, or Kubernetes containers.

Deployment

Freedom of Environment: Deploying Where it Makes Sense

You are never tied to a specific hardware vendor, appliance cycle, or hyperscaler. Wherever the BroadForward STP was deployed first, the software can be redeployed using the same configuration on VMs, Containers or bare metal. Because the BroadForward STP separates the underlying execution platform from its routing logic, GTT tables, and firewall rules, moving environments requires no re-engineering. All SS7 routing rules, GTT translations, screening tables, and multi-generation interworking workflows built in the GUI can be exported as clean, platform-independent configuration profiles or declarative Kubernetes Helm charts.
